The Blue Grass Commercial Club was originally formed June 17, 1946 by a group of Blue Grass businessmen to participate in homecoming celebrations for the area’s returning WWII Veterans. These homecoming traditions are still carried on by the Blue Grass Community Club the first full week-end in June. The event is a fundraiser for the community. It includes a variety of activities such as carnival rides, royalty contest, live music, food, bingo, beer tent, crafts, firemen’s water fight, a parade on Sunday afternoon and fireworks at dusk on Saturday.

The Community Recreation, Inc. was founded in 1949 to finance the erection of a new Community Hall, as the old one had burned down. On February 1, 1949 land was purchased from Hubert A. Freund for the sum of $1,000 to form a Blue Grass Park. On July 12, 1949 a 140’ x 70’ plot was donated and deeded to the Community Recreations, Inc. In November 1951, a building was erected on this plot. Time went on and the burden of caring for the hall became too much of a burden, so the hall was purchased by The Blue Grass Commercial Club (now named the Blue Grass Community Club) in 1978. The original officers of the Blue Grass Commercial Club were Fred Kautz, Don Farley, Ellerd Tangen and Harold Moore.

The Blue Grass Community Club (changed from the Blue Grass Commercial Club in 1982) is a privately owned, non-profit organization and has no business affiliations.

Business meetings are held at the Community Club Hall the second Tuesday of each month. A catered dinner precedes each meeting. All Blue Grass residents and residents of the nearby communities are welcome to join. We encourage new members. The membership is currently $12,00/year. In 2003, women were finally allowed to join the club. The club has a large, air-conditioned hall suitable for meetings, receptions, banquet and dancing and a large park with children’s playground equipment, a pavilion and picnic facilities.

All of the building expenses, playground, park and picnic facilities are all maintained by the Blue Grass Community Club. The Club also provides a lighted ball-diamond and pays it’s expenses to maintain. The Community Club also donates to several organizations during the year such as many school functions, the fire department, US soldiers, and needy children during the holidays.

Thanks to the success of the Community Club bringing trivia to the area, it has been able to put some funding back into the community as well as make several improvements to the Club. We hope to continue funding projects and improving the community to the best of our efforts. This all depends on the support from the community.
